We are excited to report that the Conservancy received $2,500 from the Ottawa County Community Foundation at the awards breakfast held at the Catawba Island Club on Thursday, June 15, 2023! This was received to fund the AmeriCorps intern this year that we share with the Put-in-Bay Township Park District and the Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center. (LEINCW). Below is a photo showing Lisa Brohl of the LEIC, Renee Fultz of the LEINWC, and Wendy Chambers of the PIB Chamber of Commerce (all awarded grants by the OCCF that day) and with Julene Market who is on the Ottawa County Community Foundation Board. We are so grateful for the assistance of the OCCF and happy to work with Julene on their board! What a great team of women!
We also wish to thank John and Paula Ladd for donating toward the internship.
Hi my name is Adrianna Burghardt and I am the 2023 AmeriCorps intern for Lake Erie Islands Conservancy, Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center, as well as Put-In-Bay Township Park District. I grew up in Troy, Ohio where I graduated in the spring of 2020. This fall I will be going into my senior year at the University of Dayton where I have spent the last three amazing years. I am an active member in the sustainability club, Vice President of UD’s Equestrian team, and an officer in my sorority, Kappa Delta. Next spring I will be obtaining my Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology and hope to pursue my masters after graduation.
I am super excited to learn and work under Lisa Brohl and Renee Fultz this summer in the Lake Erie islands community. This is my second summer living on the Island, as I am also employed by Frosty’s with Kim Stoiber-Morrison and Ryan Stoiber. I look forward to taking data on the purple Martin and Tree Swallow populations here on Put-in-Bay as well as help teach younger generations about the importance of conservation at Nature camp. I also hope to create a project of my own to better not only the people of Put-In-Bay but the wildlife populations as well.
Thank you to Lisa and Renee for this amazing opportunity and I’m excited for a summer full of learning.
