Spring Bird Banding on Bass Islands

Tom and Paula Bartlett and crew have been banding birds at the Middle Bass Island East Point preserve this week. The warmer southwest winds have brought lot of spring migrants as well as resident nesters arriving! Banding records show some red-winged blackbirds, AmericanRobins have been here up to 7 years ago! We had the first sharp-shinned hawk and prothonotary warbler banded on Middle Bass this week. Islanders report orioles and hummingbirds appearing at their feeders. Sandy Funtal had a surprise yellow-headed blackbird at the Perry Holiday at Put-in-Bay and Sheri Kowalski found a sora by Saunders Resort. Enjoy the beauty of spring at our preserves!
