The Lake Erie Islands Nature and Wildlife Center and the Lake Erie Islands
Conservancy hosted the traditional Holiday Bazaar the two days – December 6 and 7,
2024 of the inter-island basketball tournament at the Put-in-Bay Town Hall. Islanders
and visiting families enjoyed holiday shopping at this special event.
In addition to the Conservancy and Wildlife Center offerings, other tables were manned
by island vendors. Jill Cooks had her sail cloth and stitching projects. John Baker sold
his wood creations. Jessie Greene of Jessies Jewelry did a lot of business with the
permanent jewelry with all the young visitors. Lily Holcepel with her Backyard Bite
business sold out of her unique preserves and pickles. Tracy Chapman participated this
year with her knitted goods with Christmas ornaments from Suzette Luecke. Kelly Mohn
had Lake Erie Islands Browns Backers and Put-in-Bay EMS gear for sale and pumpkin
roll orders. The Put-in-Bay Brownies and Girl Scouts sold cookies and simmer pot and
hot chocolate kits. Kelly Faris had his beautiful photos-some of the Duff Vineyard
property were donated to the Duff Homestead. Russell Brohl II did well with his My
Great Aunt Ethel’s jams, jellies, and chutneys. Kendra Koehler of the Put-in-Bay
Township Park District also had a table of treasures from the Duff Homestead for sale.
These items, jams and chutneys from Russell Brohl II and island grape and elderberry
jellies are still available by contacting Lisa Brohl at 419-366-2087.
Special thanks go to Carmen and Bill Trisler for the five varieties of grape jellies in a
special jelly tasting flight and presented in an attractive wooden tray. The taster trays of
jelly made $500 for the Duff Vineyard Capital Campaign. Scott and Caroline Jackson
donated $1,000 worth of The Goat certificates to sell for the Duff Vineyard Capital
Campaign as well. Plants donated by Pat Thwaite from the Boardwalk were great
sellers as well.
The LEINWC was grateful to Renee’s mother Diane Fultz whose knitted and sewn
creations netted over $500 for the Wildlife Center!
Thanks to all who came and shopped or had a table that day! Watch for the event in
